Spring Nearly Upon Us

Its been a while since I last posted, but to be honest we haven't been up to much. We have spent some time enquiring about some land, but unfortunately we were to late, as it was gone just days before our enquiry. So the search for our off grid haven continues. I must admit the … Continue reading Spring Nearly Upon Us

New Raised Beds

After our semi failed attempt at growing potatoes in sacks, we had to have a think on how best we could try growing them next year. We wanted to have a bigger harvest, and growing in sacks wasn't really working for us. We talked about maybe rotavating the strip of garden next to the hedge … Continue reading New Raised Beds

3….2….1….We Have Produce

Well hello all!! It has been a while since we last wrote a post, but we have lots to update you on, so here is what we have been up to lately. We have been on a few foraging walks. We collected Rosehips from some Japanese Rose bushes that we found, which are currently in … Continue reading 3….2….1….We Have Produce

Just a Trim

Wow what a scorcher today is! We’ve been tidying the garden up. Mowed the lawns and trimmed a section of the massive hedge. Pulled out some more small and unwanted bushes that were growing under the camellia bush. We’ve also planted the only 2 surviving cauliflower in the space where the onions didn’t grow. Lazy Sunday

We’ve not been doing anything to strenuous in the garden recently. The soil around the stumps needs to be dug out, but the moods really not struck me to do it. Ha-Pea in the Garden

After the terrible winds we had a few days back, our wonderful pea trellis came crashing down! Luckily the Sweetcorn hadn’t been planted out yet in the neighbouring raised bed. We have now put that back up and secured it with wood that is a hell of a lot stronger than canes and nailed them … Continue reading Ha-Pea in the Garden

Herbs in May

On Tuesday I decided to take a short drive to the local Farm shop, all in search of Cheshire potatoes. Of course as I was there anyway I had a little mooch in the greenhouse. It was completely empty and I had a lovely stroll round and picked up a few herbs. I bought some … Continue reading Herbs in May

How Does Your Garden Grow?

I went out into the garden today to have a look at what we had already started growing and to start sowing the rest of the seeds. I found the birds had started to scratch and peck in the raised beds and a lot of the peppers were ruined. Luckily I had spare pepper seedlings … Continue reading How Does Your Garden Grow?

Compost Crazy

The compost finally got delivered yesterday! So we set to work straight away filling all the raised beds. It took a lot of hours, and with the help of my trusty trolley and bucket, they are all finally filled. We layered them up with wood chippings, bark, cardboard and compost. There are nine raised beds and 6 of them … Continue reading Compost Crazy
