In our last post, Tony showed off his awesome creations for keeping pests and birds off our veggies. We have since been out and sowed most of the seeds for the veggies we going to grow this year. As we used the first large raised bed for the potatoes, we decided to mix it up … Continue reading Sunshine’s Out and Here We Go Again 😊

Raising our Hopes
Hi all, hope everyone is safe and well. After last years experimentation on the potatoes, we decided to change the way we wanted to grow them. Instead of growing in bags (which didn't yield a big crop just a couple of meals) we want to try for a bigger crop. Having built two large raised … Continue reading Raising our Hopes
Spring Nearly Upon Us
Its been a while since I last posted, but to be honest we haven't been up to much. We have spent some time enquiring about some land, but unfortunately we were to late, as it was gone just days before our enquiry. So the search for our off grid haven continues. I must admit the … Continue reading Spring Nearly Upon Us
Stop and Smell the Roses
On a recent walk with foraging bag in hand, we came across a lot of wild (Dog) rose bushes. The walk was about 6 miles and from all along our trek, we took a few petals from each bush we walked past until we had enough to make some Wild Rose Petal Jam. I wasn’t … Continue reading Stop and Smell the Roses
Ha-Pea in the Garden
After the terrible winds we had a few days back, our wonderful pea trellis came crashing down! Luckily the Sweetcorn hadn’t been planted out yet in the neighbouring raised bed. We have now put that back up and secured it with wood that is a hell of a lot stronger than canes and nailed them … Continue reading Ha-Pea in the Garden
Herbs in May
On Tuesday I decided to take a short drive to the local Farm shop, all in search of Cheshire potatoes. Of course as I was there anyway I had a little mooch in the greenhouse. It was completely empty and I had a lovely stroll round and picked up a few herbs. I bought some … Continue reading Herbs in May
How Does Your Garden Grow?
I went out into the garden today to have a look at what we had already started growing and to start sowing the rest of the seeds. I found the birds had started to scratch and peck in the raised beds and a lot of the peppers were ruined. Luckily I had spare pepper seedlings … Continue reading How Does Your Garden Grow?
Compost Crazy
The compost finally got delivered yesterday! So we set to work straight away filling all the raised beds. It took a lot of hours, and with the help of my trusty trolley and bucket, they are all finally filled. We layered them up with wood chippings, bark, cardboard and compost. There are nine raised beds and 6 of them … Continue reading Compost Crazy
Sprouting in Spring
Things are growing nicely in the garden with all this beautiful sunshine. Its just a shame that the compost still hasn't been delivered, meaning the raised beds are still empty bar the one that has already been filled. The Purple sprouting Broccoli has really started to grow. Although there are no neat rows and its … Continue reading Sprouting in Spring
